Smore- Online Newsletter

Have you ever used the site Smore? It is a way to make an online flyer. This is a flyer I made for my students that show what we'll be studying next week. I was able to add links to several songs and videos we will be watching.

I love this because you can share it electronically and I've also posted it on Edmodo so my students can access it. It looks great and it is easy to make. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Nearpod

Are you familiar with the add Nearpod? This is a great app that I used again with my class today and thought I'd share with you. Check it out in the itunes store by using this link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nearpod/id523540409

You are able to set up a teacher account and upload powerpoints to use with your class.

Here is what the screen looks like once you upload the slide show. Once it is in your library just click the icon for the show you want to use and click launch.

When you launch it you will get a PIN to share with your students. They open the app on their device and enter the code. Then you are able to control the pace of the slide show with your teacher ipad.

I love this app and I've used it a lot with small group instruction. This is the first time I've used it this school year and thought it would be a good thing to share with you. Please let me know if you have any questions about using this app with your class. Untitled

How to Make a Telligami

I love using the Telligami app on the iPad with my students. We have made a few of them and I thought I would share this tutorial I made so you can make one for yourself. You could even show this to your students so they can make them as well. Hope this video helps!

Padlet

Have you used padlet.com with your students?

This week in the computer lab I asked my students to respond to a question via Edmodo. I posted a link to this padlet wall. They were able to post their answers for everyone to see.

Created with Padlet

I also like padlet because it looks the same even when you access it with the iPad (no flash required). Here is another example of a page my students used during our science lesson on weathering.

Teaching Channel

Are you familiar with videos from Teaching Channel?

If you haven't signed up yet you should go do it now! They have videos of lessons and quick tips from teachers. I love the fact that most videos also have the pages they used with the students and pictures of different things from the lesson.

My most recent favorite is the video that discusses Keep It or Junk It. I loved this idea and will be trying with my students soon. I also created some posters to display in my classroom. Feel free to use them if you want to try this as well.

Show Me App How to Video

I created this video to help the teachers at my school learn to use the app Show Me.I thought it would be good to have a video so they can go back and watch it again later. I know I'd love to have something like this when I'm trying to use a new program or app.

I posted about it here a few weeks ago so I thought I'd add the video here as well. This will also be something I post for my students to view on Edmodo so they will know how to use the app when I ask them to create a ShowMe.

Music Cues App

I want to share another of my favorite apps with you today. This one is called Music Cues. It is $1.99 but I use this app every day. I plug the ipad into my computer speakers and use songs for transitions or to signal that we are starting something in the room. I posted about this on my class blog but I thought I'd share some of the songs I use.

Welcome! Show Me App

My principal asked me about setting up a blog in order to share information about technology we are using at school. I am the technology integration mentor at Monrovia Elementary School. I am also a 5th grade teacher. This is my 13th year teaching and I've been in 5th grade all but 3 of those years. Some people find it hard to believe but I taught 1st grade my first three years of teaching.

I love using technology with my students and also sharing with other teachers. I have been sharing many things on my classroom blog: Mrs. White's Fifth Grade Class

So, I'm going to share one of my favorite apps for the iPad called ShowMe.

I love this app and have used it many time to explain math concepts to parents and as review for students. Last year we were doing long division and I showed the students the partial quotient method. One of my students came back the next day and said his mom said he was doing it all wrong. So I decided to make a video to teach everyone the new method.

I've also used this app to allow students to record and explain different things. Want to see one we made this week? Gianna explains close reading in math.

You can also search the videos other people have made. Want to see some of my other videos? You can follow me! http://www.showme.com/MWhiteMES
